Can you believe it's been almost 3 weeks!? What an awesome start to the year! I wanted to post this parent letter here in the blog and it will be sent home as well (English and Spanish). This letter introduces an alternative addition strategy, or a different way to add two numbers. This is what we're learning in class. Hope this provides you with an understanding of this addition strategy. To read or print the letter, just click on the "Print" or "Fullscreen" links below.

It's hard to believe we are in our second week of school! But, we are off to a GREAT start! I have loved getting to know a new, awesome group of students. I can tell it's going to be a wonderful school year... I'm excited! Over the last week, we have really focused on establishing our classroom routines and expectations, and developing a strong community within our classroom. One of the ways we build and maintain relationships in our classroom is through Houses. Each student is in a "House" group that works together to accomplish learning and behavior goals. They work together to support and encourage each other in the process. Our classroom has 4 Houses, Katorthoma (Greek for Achievement), Coraggio (Italian for Courage), Sophos (Greek for Wisdom), and Fuerza (Spanish for Strength). It is always amazing to see the strength of relationships built through Houses and the great pride students take in their House group! This week, students were divided into their Houses and we began the team building process. The students did a great job building toothpick structures! It required a lot of teamwork and communication! They came up with some great design ideas... and some even managed to get their towers to stand! Here's some pictures... Stay tuned for more posts with classroom updates! It's going to be a great year!
